The Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman, through the Queensland Workplace Rights Office, provides information and advice on legislation affecting workplaces and investigates unfair, illegal or inappropriate workplace actions.
The Workplace Rights Ombudsman also advises the Government on strategies to improve protection for vulnerable workers and promote industrial relations best practice in Queensland.
The Workplace Rights Ombudsman has the power to:
- Provide information and advice to Queensland workers and employers and to promote fair and equitable work practices in Queensland workplaces;
- Investigate and report on unlawful, unfair or otherwise inappropriate employment practices;
- Refer instances of possible unlawful industrial relations and other work-related matters to appropriate authorities or services;
- Provide advice to the State Government on strategies that might be introduced to improve protections for vulnerable workers; and
- Promote best industrial relations practices in Queensland.
The Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman’s Office operates the Workplace Rights Hotline on 1300 737 841 (formerly the Fair Go Queensland Advisory Service Hotline).
