Privacy
The Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman and Queensland Workplace Rights Office (QWRO) are committed to the Queensland Government's Privacy Standard. We understand you are concerned about your privacy, confidentiality and security of any personal information you provide. This Statement describes how the QWRO collects, stores, uses and discloses your personal information.
Personal information is any information which allows you to be identified. This could include your name, address, age or physical characteristics.
The QWRO collects personal information only if it directly relates to its activities and ensures reasonable safeguards to prevent unauthorised access to, use or disclosure of your information.
Normally, the QWRO will use your personal information only for the purpose it was collected and disclose it only if you are aware or have consented. However, the QWRO must disclose personal information if required by law.
You should be aware some applications for assistance, particularly those made by or on behalf of individuals may involve the QWRO holding personal information of both workers and employers. QWRO clients should also be aware of the following:
- Personal information collected with consent on the Workplace Rights Hotline or in documents provided to the QWRO relating to Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman matters is disclosed to all concerned parties including the staff of the Queensland Workplace Rights Office (on a need-to-know basis) for further investigation, contact with parties, etc.
- People, other than immediate parties to a matter, requesting access to claim case files made by, or on behalf of, an individual must make a formal application under the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (FOI Act).
- The FOI Act exempts from disclosure information relating to the personal affairs of any person other than the person seeking access to the document.
- QWRO clients should be aware they may be requested to take part in satisfaction surveys concerning any QWRO services provided. Clients can decline to participate.
- The QWRO’s Privacy Plan is available to view or download (Privacy Plan (PDF, 109 KB)) or a copy can be read at the QWRO, Level 18, Central Plaza 2, 66 Eagle Street, Brisbane. QWRO’s Privacy Plan is based on the 11 information privacy principles contained in Information Standard 42 - Information Privacy (PDF, 57 KB). The Information Standard consists of the Information Privacy Principles which are reproduced in the Appendix to the Plan.
