Codes of practice
The Office of the Queensland Workplace Rights Ombudsman (QWRO) is working to encourage fair industrial relations and work practices in Queensland.
A recent report by the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations called "Tipping the Scales: A qualitative study of the impact of Work Choices on women in low-paid employment in Queensland" (PDF, 283 KB), recommends the development of codes of practice to encourage fair treatment of employees.
In particular it recommended codes be developed for private sector employers in the:
- contract cleaning
- retail
- aged and community care and
- hospitality sectors.
The following codes have been finalised.
- Code of Practice – Fair Treatment of Employees Retail Industry
- Code of Practice – Fair Treatment of Employees Hospitality Industry
- Code of Practice – Fair Treatment of Employees Aged and Community Care Industry
- Code of Practice – Fair Treatment of Employees Contract Cleaning Industry
In addition, two other codes have been developed:
